What 2020 Has Taught Me
Back in March, when the world shut down, I was devastated. I was devastated by the pain and suffering the pandemic was causing, and also devastated that my love of seeing and experiencing the world was being taken away from me. While I hadn't travelled as much as I had wanted to in recent years, I still cherished the opportunities I had to explore. 2019 had been a year of really connecting with nature and enjoying the outdoors. I was working hiking into my routine. I had even gone on a couple of full-day hikes and was desperate for more outdoors. Then we were told to stay home and all of that stopped for a while.
But as time went on and we realized we could be outside relatively safely, I quickly rediscovered the joys of nature. I had a newfound appreciation for it after the trauma of the spring. It's even helped me cope with the anxiety and uncertainty of the pandemic. While much of the world was experiencing chaos, I could still go trek out into the wilderness and find some peace. I could climb to the peak of a mountain and look upon the world from a different perspective.
Over the course of the summer and fall I have been able to branch out and try a number of trails in the Los Angeles area. After having walked a number of miles and gotten to see what LA and the surrounding area has to offer, I decided I wanted to share what I found with others because there are some real gems just in our backyards. And as the world (hopefully) opens back up in 2021, I can share a wider variety of experiences with you. Whatever happens, I hope you find a connection with our world through the beauty of nature.
